As I’ve been posting about the Jameson Empire competition for the past while, you’ve lived through our Truman Show in 60 seconds, the hopes, the dreams, the extended version and even the bloopers. I mentioned in my last post that I was surprised with some really fantastic entries not making the cut. It seems I’m not the only one with these feelings.

It emerged today that the top twenty finalists of the competition are all British entries. This has created a glimmer of hope for all international entries as Chris Hewitt Empire film reviewer said this on the Empire forum:
“I believe that Irish entries will be judged separately. The entries on our site are UK entries, so if you’re Irish and you’re foaming at the mouth about not getting in… you might be a tad hasty.”
In doing so, he has sparked the hopes of all international entries again OR has uncovered a scandal. Let’s hope it’s the former as there are a few entries I’d be happy to see make the final few.

Trust me, it’s all a big mess.
As somebody who entered the Dutch competition of Done In Sixty Seconds (where 1 winner gets a trip to London to be part of the 20 finalists) I got confused too. Our deadline was 29th of January to submit with the dutch finale event on 16th of february. We hassled our ASS off to get our film done on time, to only hear on the 30th of january the deadline got extended cos “some entries were complaining about not enough time”…
By the way: the Irish competition was posted here: http://entertainment.ie/donein60seconds/
Hi there, what a mess indeed! Thanks for the link, I entered on the entertainment.ie website alright at the end of January but haven’t heard any news on that. I’d love to go to an event where the Irish entries are announced and to have a look at all the Irish entries.
Have you not had an update on the dutch finale event? Since this competition is not in its first year, I’m surprised at this confused organization.
Apparently this is the first year with all the internation sub-competitions.
There’s 7 entries for the dutch contest posted on it’s Facebook group and Youtube Channel (which is the official way of submitting it in Holland oddly enough). We’ve all gotten a FB invite for the finale event next tuesday, so I guess all 7 films will be shown and then the jury will make its choice right there?
But I agree, the communication from Empire and local competitions has been confusing to say the least
I guess the sub-competitions have confused matters. Things will be cleared up for you on Tuesday then- maybe you could fill me in if there’s no news by then. Best of luck with your entry
